NECA hosts an annual series of interesting and topical meetings where members can keep up-to-date on the latest developments in conservation, enjoy refreshments with friends and colleagues, and see behind the scenes in area labs and studios.
NECA also spreads the word about conservation-related events in the New England area not organized by our group. If you have an event or employment posting that you would like to appear on our website, email us at [email protected].
Upcoming Events 2024 Please join NECA for a lunchtime talk on Zoom! December 11, 2024 at 12 pm Jess Chloros, Objects Conservator at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, will share the research she conducted during her 4-month Fulbright U.S. Scholar award at the University of Dundee in Scotland. The subject of her work was researching ways of advancing the accessibility of two-dimensional works of art such as paintings, prints, drawings or photographs that have historically been excluded from museum touch tours for visitors with blindness and low vision. While her project was outside of the explicit confines of art conservation, she approached her research by centering her deep experience as a practicing art conservator and the knowledge of materials that comes with that. That experience and knowledge opened many doors, making it possible to collaborate with and learn from a range of colleagues including disability scholars, designers, artists, technology experts and members of the blind community. She will also share how the project evolved to include multi-sensory experiences and discuss her hopes for furthering this work in Boston.
