Events

NECA hosts an annual series of interesting and topical meetings where members can keep up-to-date on the latest developments in conservation, enjoy refreshments with friends and colleagues, and see behind the scenes in local labs and studios.

NECA also spreads the word about conservation-related events in the New England area not organized by our group. If you have an event or employment posting that you would like to appear on our website and/or email listserv, email us at
[email protected].

Upcoming Events 2025

Traditional Water and Oil Gilding Workshop with Allison & Sue Jackson
Harvard Art Museums, Materials Lab
December 9 & 10 2025, 9:30 – 4:30
10 participants
Fee: $550

This two-day workshop will teach participants the processes of water and oil gilding from preparing a surface to gild on, making gesso and bole, sanding gesso, and applying gold leaf. Two small frames will be provided as substrates for gilding. You may also bring something small, pocket sized, to gild on your own.

Participants will receive a gilders kit including a gilders pad, tip, knife, agate burnisher, and 4 brushes OR you may provide your own tools (-$190 registration). The rest of the supplies and materials, including a book of gold leaf, will be provided for each participant.

We should also have a chance to look at frames in the museum and discuss any gilding conservation projects you might have questions about.

Please RSVP to Allison at [email protected] and indicate whether you would like to receive a gilders kit.  Responses will be collected up until November 3.
